This unscripted and unplanned short documentary was created in an operating theatre in the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology in Hanoi where Lara travelled with Dr James Muecke AM for the first time in 2016 to document the work of the Australian NGO Sight For All. The brief was open: let’s try and find a story that can connect people to Sight For All’s work and the impact they have. The film has won three international awards and the official selection into four international film festivals – helping us to shine a light on the great work of a dedicated group of eye health specialists! The film has been narrated by Australian actress Kerry Armstrong and was broadcast on SBS and SBS on Demand during 2020.
In 2020, Dr James Muecke AM received the country’s highest honour and recognised for his humanitarian work, recognised as the Australian of the Year.
